Amy Zabin, DA

Dr. Amy Zabin received three degrees in Music Therapy: doctoral from New York University, masters from Florida State University and bachelors from West Texas A&M University. She currently teaches on the graduate school faculty of NYU and holds executive positions on the boards of the Child Guidance Center and holds executive positions on the boards of the Child Guidance Center and the Anti Defamation League. Her recently published book 'Conversations With A Pedophile-In the Interest of Our Children' is approaching its second printing.

Music Therapy at Greenwich Hospital is as personal as each person who enters through its doors. As Dr. Amy Zabin introduces herself she often asks, “What kind of music do you listen to?” and from there a rich conversation begins. The focus is on communication and wellness. Music serves as a shortcut to enable Dr. Zabin to learn much about her patient in a short period of time, thus helping her to empower the patient in return. For example, when she begins to strum her guitar and sing a chemotherapy patient's favorite songs during treatment, the patient is able to forget about the intravenous tubing, the hospital room, the nausea...instead the patient is able to feel strength return, recalling an innate sense of power. For others, music can be a stepping stone to help families communicate about a difficult medical diagnosis and the fears of the unknown. Music helps families find a comfort spot to begin communication to share concerns and emotional bonds that are supportive during medical treatment.

Music Therapy at Greenwich Hospital also includes Music and Meditation in the chapel on a weekly basis on Tuesdays from 12:30-1pm. Patients, staff and community members are all welcome. Dr. Zabin treats all in attendance to a blissful time with her sounds of crystal singing bowls, flute and guitar and she guides a deep meditation leaving all feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!
