Inversion Ankle Sprain: A Common Sports Injury

Particularly among athletes who participate in high intensity sports such as basketball, football and soccer, inversion ankle sprain is a common injury. It occurs when the foot is forced into inversion (turned inward) beyond the capabilities of the controlling ligaments and muscles. As a result of this excessive force, the ligaments fail and become torn. It may feel like a twisted ankle or as if someone landed on your foot.

Stress – It’s Affecting Our Children

What stresses our children out the most? School, grades and homework (36%), family (32%) and friends, peers, gossip and teasing (21%). This is according to a recent KidsPoll survey of 875 9- to 13-year-olds conducted through the collaboration of the Nemours Foundation/KidsHealth, the Department of Health Education and Recreation at Southern Illinois University and the National Association of Health Education Centers.
