Center for Integrative Medicine

Mark Beitel, PhD

Mark Beitel, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, has joined the Center for Integrative Medicine to provide integrative psychological services for adults, adolescents and children. An assistant clinical professor at Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Beitel earned a bachelor’s degree from the Psychology Honors Program at the University of Michigan, a master’s degree from the New School for Social Research, and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Fordham University.

Dr. Beitel began his career at Yale as a full-time member of the psychiatry faculty. He has published more than 20 scientific articles on psychotherapy, chronic pain, substance use, and integrative medicine and has a special interest in pain management, substance abuse and integrated approaches to mental health including facets of Buddhist psychology that have received scientific support. Dr. Beitel feels that integrative psychotherapy should be highly tailored to individual patients and administered after careful consideration of one’s unique developmental history, personality style, and way of relating to others. Clients can then gain insight into the meaning of their symptoms and address the issues in concrete and practical ways.
